Taiyuan Airport Expansion Passes Final Inspection
The expansion project of Taiyuan Airport has passed a final inspection by the Shanxi provincial government and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
After expansion and renovation, Taiyuan Airport meets the requirements of an alternate airport for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Its new terminal building will be launched for operation from July 1, 2008.
Commencing on March 26, 2006, the expansion project of Taiyuan Airport had a total investment of CNY 1.57 billion with the aim of increasing the transportation capacity to handle six million passengers, 97,000 tons of cargo and 71,000 aircraft movements a year by 2015. The expansion project includes a new 55,000-square-meter terminal building; extending the original runway and parallel way for 400 and 3,600 meters, respectively; improving the level of the flying area from 4D to 4E; a new 210,000-square-meter parking area with an additional 18 parking bays; and supporting facilities. The new terminal building is located to the southeast of old one, and after expansion the airport is three times larger than before.
