Macau's Inbound Tourists On Package Tours Increase By 22.1%

According to data from the Statistics and Census Service of Macau, in the first five months of 2008, Macau welcomed 2,073,363 inbound tourists in package tours, an increase of 22.1% compared to the same period of 2007.

In May 2008, there was a total of 425,787 arrivals in package tours to Macau, representing a growth rate of 47.2% year-on-year. Of these, 278,879 were from mainland China, and 32,068 from Hong Kong, an increase of by 47.5% and 45.7%, respectively; and 50,074 from southeast Asian regions, which greatly surged by 216.8%.

This May, all hotels in Macau hosted a total of 544,151 guests, 19.9% higher than the same month of previous year. Two major source markets mainland China and Hong Kong accounted for 48.6% and 22.7%, respectively. The average occupancy rate across all levels of hotels in Macau rose by 0.6% to 72.9%, of which that of four-star hotels grew by 77.5%, ranking first place. In the first five months of this year, total number of hotel guests in Macau reached 2,697,570, up by 17.9% over the same period of 2007.

In addition, as of the end of May 2008, Macau hotel market could offer a total of 16,234 rooms with the additional 3,182 representing a year-on-year growth rate of 24.4%.
