Continental Airlines To Open Nonstop Shanghai-New York Route
Continental Airlines has announced that it will open a daily nonstop flight between Shanghai and the New York area hub at Newark Liberty International Airport from March 26, 2009.
Meanwhile, the company will also launch a service from Shanghai to Cleveland via New York on the same day. Both routes are subject to government approval.
Continental Airlines opened a nonstop route between New York and Hong Kong in 2001, and launched the New York-Beijing route in 2005.
The new daily nonstop service will connect New York as a global financial center and business and leisure destination to Shanghai, known as a Chinese financial and trade center. The additional service will be operated using Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The flight will start from Shanghai at 15:45, arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport at 18:20; the return flight departs from New York at 11:20, and arrives at Shanghai at 13:45 the following day. A single flight takes about fourteen and a half hours.
