Macau: Hotel Room Occupancy Dropped By 2.7% In 2008
Statistics from the Macau Statistics and Census Service show that despite an increase in tourist arrivals the average hotel room occupancy of Macau was 74.5% in 2008, down 2.7% compared to the previous year.
In December 2008, Macau's average room occupancy was 79%, which was a decrease of 4.1% over that of the same period in the previous year. The highest room occupancy was in four-star hotels and reached 87.6%.
The statistics show that in 2008, Macau received 4.9 million tourists, which was an increase of 15.8% over that of 2007. In December 2008, the region received 501,000 tourists, an increase of 16.2% over the same period of 2007. Of these 70% of the tourists were from the Chinese mainland, an increase of 18.4% and more than 37,000 tourists were from Taiwan, an increase of 30%.
