The National Tourism Administration of China has announced the launch of a pilot program for travel agency blanket liability insurance in 2010.
According to CNTA, this blanket insurance covers additional areas including traffic accidents and food poisoning. Minimum compensation limits per person have been increased from CNY90,000 to CNY200,000. There are also products with limits from CNY200,000 to CMY800,000 for travel agencies to choose from. Extraneous risks are optional to meet the various demands of travel agencies.
This program's insurance pool consists of six insurance companies: PICC Property and Casualty Company, China Pacific Property Insurance Company, China Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, China Continent Property & Casualty Insurance Company, China Life Property & Casualty Insurance Company, and Taiping General Insurance Company.
Officials of CNTA state that they believe that the blanket insurance will better ensure the interests of tourists and improve tourism management capability.
