The World Travel & Tourism Council has pointed out in its annual report that since tourism is a key factor for global economic growth during the financial crisis, China's tourism industry has now become the leader in tourism recovery and growth.
Adrian Cooper, the managing director of WTTC's research partner Oxford Economics, said at a press conference that the world's tourism economy would probably fall by 5.5% in 2009 but the market will revive with the recovery of the economy in 2010.
Cooper said that over the next ten years, China is expected to be the fastest growing economy in the world. Its domestic and international tourism are both increasing. It will accelerate the development of world tourism economy and occupy a leading position in the world tourism market.
It is also learned that Beijing will host the Tenth Global Travel & Tourism Summit in May 2010 organized by WTTC.
