China Looks To Accelerate Development Of Tourism Industry

The recent Chinese State Council Executive Meeting approved in principle the proposal "View on Accelerating Development of Tourism Industry", encouraging social capital and enterprises of all ownerships to enter the tourism industry.

Tourism has both economic and social functions with low energy consumption, a high influence coefficient, more employment opportunities, and better comprehensive benefits. Despite the rapid development in recent years, the tourism industry still faces problems of extensive growth mode, underdeveloped infrastructure, and low service quality.

To accelerate the development of the industry, there are five major aspects of work to be done. The first is to liberalize tourism market access, encouraging the equitable participation of social capital and enterprises of various ownerships. Second, optimize tourism consumption environment by facilitating infrastructure construction such as traffic, service and travel safety. Third, promote the diversification of tourist products, including rural tours, red tourism, and leisure tourism. Fourth, concentrate more on improvements of employee quality and supervision of the tourism market. Fifth, promote energy conservation and environmental protection in the industry, advocating healthy, civilized, and green tourism.
