Sichuan Airport Group Teams Up With Japan Airport Terminal
Sichuan Province Airport Group recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with Japan Airport Terminal Company, with the intention of providing a non-stop service between Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and Tokyo.
The cooperation is aimed at launching regular direct flights linking Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport. Currently, passengers from Chengdu have to transfer in Beijing.
Chengdu Shuangliu Airport currently offers flights on three routes linking Chengdu to Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya in Japan. Passenger traffic at the airport reached 22.64 million in 2009. In the first seven months of 2010, traffic increased 18.1% year on year to 14.66 million.
Sichuan Province Airport Group operates six airports in southwest China, inlcuding Chengdu Shuangliu airport, which is the sixth-largest airport in China.
