China To Invest CNY600 Million In Chengde Mountain Resort

The Chinese government has decided to invest CNY600 million over the next five years for the preservation of Chengde Mountain Resort and the temples in its vicinity.

The government will allocate CNY520 million for the preservation of the main body of Chengde Mountain Resort and its temples; while CNY80 million will be used for the preservation of water systems. The investment in 2010 will be in the region of CNY100 million.

Initially established in 1703, Chengde Mountain Resort was one of the first batches of China's key cultural heritage sites to be put under state protection and it was inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage list in 1994.

In the period from 1976 to 2005, the Chinese government has invested more than CNY76 million in the mountain resort.
