Beijing Airport Reports 12% Growth In August Passenger Traffic

Airport operator Beijing Capital International Airport Company has said that in August 2010 passenger traffic at the airport increased by 11.6% from a year earlier to 6.99 million.

In the first eight months of 2010, the capital airport handled 48.95 million passengers, 13.4% more than in the same period of last year.

The number of domestic passengers rose 8.9% in August, while international passengers and those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan rose 21.2%, with global airlines carrying 24.9% more passengers.

Figures released by the operator also showed that aircraft takeoff and landings rose 7.1% year on year to 46,000 in August 201. Flights on domestic routes rose 5.5%, while overseas flights and flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan rose 13.7%, with 16.1% more operated by global carriers.

The operator said that in the period from January to August 2010, aircraft movements rose 6.2% from a year ago to 343,300.
