Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has announced that the St. Regis Lhasa Resort will open in November 2010 and will be the first St. Regis resort in China.
Located on the "Roof of the World", 3,680 meters above sea level, the resort is located on Jiangsu Road and situated in the famous ancient Barkhor area. The St. Regis Lhasa Resort is just minutes away from the holy Potala Palace and 75 kilometers from Gongga Airport. It features 150 oversized rooms and villas and 12 suites including the Presidential Suite, as well as restaurants, bars, the Iridium Spa, ballroom and meeting space. The St. Regis Lhasa Resort is slated to be the first international luxury hotel in Tibet.
All the hotel guest rooms are accented by local artifacts and distinctive décor reflecting Tibetan culture and heritage and feature plasma TVs, multi-channel cable, high speed Internet access, and spacious marble bathrooms.
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort will be a green hotel and great effort has been put into reducing its carbon footprint and saving energy. By utilizing solar energy and underground water, the St. Regis Lhasa is estimated to reduce diesel energy consumption every year by 93,000 kilograms with corresponding savings in carbon emissions. The hotel will also operate a fleet of high-efficiency hybrid and turbo-diesel vehicles, which are expected to help reduce carbon emissions by 30%.
Following in the tradition of the St. Regis Hotel New York, the St. Regis Lhasa Resort will feature the hallmarks of St. Regis hotels including the St. Regis Butler Service, bespoke guest experiences and luxury accommodations tailored to meet global travelers' needs. Trained in the English tradition, the butlers provide an unobtrusive round the clock service aimed at anticipating guests needs and customizing each guest's stay according to his or her specific tastes and preferences.
