Shanghai Disneyland To Start Construction In November
According to reports in the Chinese media, construction on the Shanghai Disneyland Resort is expected to kick off in November 2010, following the closure of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
The first phase of the project will include a theme park and supporting facilities and will span four square kilometers with the theme park covering one square kilometer.
The project is expected to take five to six years to finish.
In November 2009, the municipal government of Shanghai obtained approval from the National Development and Reform Commission to build the Disneyland Resort in the city.
In August 2010, Shanghai Disneyland's Chinese partner, Shanghai Shendi Shendi Group Corporation, was established. The Chinese company will set up a joint venture with Walt Disney to oversee the project.
Disney opened a theme park in Hong Kong in 2005.
