Record Number Of Mainland Tourists Visit Taiwan

According to the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, the number of mainland tourists traveling to Taiwan reached a record 1.19 million in the first nine months of 2010, 73.52% more than the 687,000 visitors in the same period of the previous year.

The bureau estimates that the number of mainland tourists will exceed 1.5 million in 2010.

The bureau also says that mainland China has replaced Japan as the top tourist source for the island.

In the first nine months of this year, Taiwan received 4.02 million tourists. About 782,000 Japanese tourists visited the island during the period.
