Chen Wei Says Xiamen Will Be China's Top MICE City

Chen Wei is the general manager of Xiamen Airlines International Travel Service MICE Division.

What advantages does your company have with regards to MICE?
The company boasts resource advantages in air ticketing, hotels, food and beverages, sightseeing, automobiles, meeting planning, and aviation supported by its group industry chain. Following five years of development, the company's business has expanded to many places in China, and it has successfully planned and held more than 200 meetings and exhibitions.

What do you think of Xiamen's MICE market this year?
Xiamen is holding more conferences this year than in previous years: especially medical conferences. In addition, Quanzhou's sportswear manufacturing industry is developing fast, and many of the companies have chosen Xiamen to be the destination for trade fairs and other activities. The development of MICE in Xiamen benefits from the rapid development of the economy, the completion of hardware facilities like transportation, hotel and convention centers, and the China International Fair for Investment & Trade have improved the popularity of Xiamen.

What are your requirements If an event or meeting is to be held in a hotel?
I would recommend that organizers hold meetings in foreign-invested star-rated hotels for two major reasons. First, these hotels have the same uniform decoration standards and hardware facilities as overseas hotels, and people don't have to worry about this. Second, these hotels have better software factors and are more flexible than Chinese-invested hotels.

Which hotel's meeting products and services have impressed you the most? And why?
We have used almost all the four- and five-star hotels in Xiamen, and we have confirmed the emergency handling capacity of Crowne Plaza Paragon Xiamen and Wyndham Xiamen.

What are the prospects for Xiamen's MICE business in the future?
Since it is the major city for cultural and economic exchanges with Taiwan, Xiamen can use features of Minnan and Tainwanese culture in MICE activities. As a center for sunrise industries and with support from the local government, Xiamen will be a top MICE destination city in China.
