In a bid to meet the booming demand for travel across the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan's EVA Air has announced that it will launch flights to more cities on the Chinese mainland in December 2010.
On December 10, 2010 the Taiwanese carrier, along with its subsidiary, Uni Airways, started flying between Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province and Taoyuan. The service is operated on every Tuesday and Friday using Airbus 330-200s, configured for 24 passengers in the Premium Laurel Class business cabin and 228 in economy.
Weekly flights between Taoyuan and Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, will be launched on December 18 and will also be operated using Airbus 330-200s.
EVA has also said that UNI Air will start operating one flight a week between Taichung and Ningbo in Zhejiang province on December 20, 2010.
The launch of Zhengzhou, Jinan, and Ningbo services give EVA and UNI a combined total of 17 destinations in mainland China linked to Taiwan by 27 routes with 77 weekly flights. Adding services code-shared with Air China, Shenzhen Air, and Shandong Air, EVA and UNI come close to doubling the frequency of their service with 119 flights a week.
