China To Be World's Top Tourist Destination By 2020

According to the chairman of the International Tourism Association China is expected to surpass France as the world's leading tourist destination by 2020.

At the opening ceremony of 13th Heilongjiang International Ski Festival in Harbin Eric Duluc, the chairman of the International Tourism Association, said that China now is behind France and Spain, but is expected to surpass Spain in 2011. Different organizations have different statistical methods and different forecasts, however based on ITA's figures, China will surpass France as the world's number one tourist destination within ten years.

When asked about the effect on the tourism sector of the global financial crisis, Duluc said it is both good and bad. In his opinion, now is time to invest in the tourism sector.
