Thailand Becomes Top Tourist Source Country For Yunnan

Yunnan, the most southwesterly province in China, received around 27,000 tourists from Thailand, making the Southeast Asian country the top tourist source country for Yunnan: according to Yu Dingcheng, director of Yunnan Provincial Tourism Bureau.

In recent years, the Yunnan provincial government has launched tourism sales campaigns specifically aimed at neighboring countries. The Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture is establishing tourism cooperation systems with Laos and Thailand, and has built tourism marketing centers in Thailand's Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Yu said the opening of the Kunming-Bangkok Highway and the Lantsang-Mekong Waterway for ships have greatly helped boost demand among Thai tourist to travel to Yunnan.
