Jetstar Asia To Open Singapore-Shantou Route
The Shantou government and Jetstar Asia Airways have announced that the airline will launch a direct air route from Singapore to Shantou, making it the first outbound airline to launch flights in Shantou Airport.
Three flights are scheduled for the route each week and this will greatly shorten the journey time by removing the need to transfer in Hong Kong. The new route is expected facilitate the economy and tourism cooperation and exchanges between Chaoshan area and Southeast Asia.
Shantou Airport, which is currently used in a dual role for both civilian and military use, is the only air port serving the Chaoshan area. Currently only five airlines have air routes to Shantou, including Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern. To date only China Southern operates four regional and international routes from Shantou: to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Seoul, and Yangon.
