Shanghai World Expo Attracts 73 Million Visitors
The 2010 Shanghai World Expo ended on October 31, 2010 and it attracted a record 73.08 million visitors during the six-month period.
The number of visitors exceeded the previous record of 64.21 million visitors attending the 1970 Osaka World Expo.
According to Expo's organizers, the Expo zone handled an average of 400,000 visitors per day. The highest number of daily visitors was 1.03 million on October 16. In addition, the number of overseas tourists exceeded 3.5 million.
The government had invested CNY28.6 billion in the Expo and the event has brought in CNY80 billion in direct tourism revenue.
The 2012 World Expo will be held in Yeosu, a South Korean port city.
