State Council Agrees Expansion Of Hainan Tourism Industry

The State Council has agreed to Hainan further expanding the tourism industry with a pilot trial taking advantage of its position as one of the special economic zones in China.

Hainan province is also approved to open a duty free shop in each of Haikou, Sanya, Qionghai, and Wanning to provide facilities for international tourists.

Zhang Qi, director of Hainan Tourism Bureau said that to build Hainan into an international tourism island is one of four major tasks set by the Hainan provincial government, which is of significance for the province to develop a modern service industry focusing on the tourism sector to develop the Hainan economy.

In the short term Hainan will take several measures including introducing large foreign tourism enterprises into the Hainan tourism market; attracting famous global hotel brands to participate in building Sanya Haitangwan into an international top-level resort area; holding outbound tour promotions aiming at Olympic opportunities; cooperating with Hong Kong to launch multi-destination tourism products of shopping in Hong Kong and spending a holiday in Hainan targeting high-end overseas tourists.
