Xiamen Airport To Unveil Terminal Building For No-frills Airlines

Xiamen Airport plans to unveil a special terminal building for no-frills airlines by the end of this year.

Liu Xiaoming, vice general manager of Xiamen Airport said that the airport is renovating its cargo station on the side of the runway to be a temporary terminal building for no-frills airlines, which will provide simpler facilities and procedures than normal terminals. In addition, Xiamen Airport also plans to renovate its old terminal building to be a formal budget terminal.

Currently, Xiamen Airport is reportedly the airport with the largest number of no-frills airlines around China. Besides local no-frills airlines Spring Airlines has opened a low price route from Shanghai to Xiamen, Singapore's Tiger Airways and the Philippines' Cebu Pacific have launched routes from Xiamen to Singapore and from Xiamen to Manila, respectively.

Following this, the airport will attract several no-frills airlines from Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia to set-up there. In this way Xiamen Airport hopes to build itself into one of the transfer hubs for low-cost routes.
